Hundreds of Animals at Risk as Flooding Hits Kropyvnytskyi Shelter.
Emergency in Kropyvnytskyi
According to TSN.ua: An emergency unfolded in Kropyvnytskyi on February 16 when a river overflowed, flooding the 'Bim' animal shelter and putting hundreds of dogs and cats in critical danger. Local residents and emergency crews mobilized to rescue the stranded animals. This severe weather is part of a wider pattern of flooding affecting multiple regions of Ukraine.
As water began to inundate the shelter's open enclosures, threatening the animals' lives, approximately 180 rescue workers in the Kirovohrad region were deployed to pump out water and conduct the animal rescue. The situation in the area was tense, with the adverse weather also flooding private farmsteads, basements, and cellars in several communities.
Severe Weather Across Other Regions
The severe weather is not confined to Kropyvnytskyi. In the Kharkiv region, around 140 households have been affected, with water entering yards, cellars, and some residential buildings. The situation in the Odesa region is also concerning: over 90 homes in the Rozdilna district and dozens of settlements have been flooded. In the Mykolaiv region, yard areas in several settlements are underwater, while in the Cherkasy region, rescue teams have been repeatedly called out to pump away floodwater.
Rescue services continue to work on mitigating the effects of the natural disaster, striving to ensure the safety of both people and animals caught in the difficult situation. The situation remains under control but requires urgent action to prevent further flooding.

The involvement of the local community in the rescue efforts also demonstrates the solidarity of residents in difficult times, which could serve as an example for other regions facing similar challenges.
