Two Poachers Detained in Odesa Region: They Destroyed 100 Trees and Caused Damage of 600 Thousand UAH.
Residents of the Odesa region illegally chopped down trees in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, causing environmental damage of 600 thousand UAH. They were caught at the scene, and now the men face up to 7 years in prison.
This was reported by the Odesa regional prosecutor's office.
Case Details
Two residents of Odesa were engaged in logging in protective forest stripes on the territories of the Starokozatska and Saratska communities. One organized the logging, transportation, and sale of timber, while the other dealt with its sawing and loading. According to preliminary data, the suspects damaged and destroyed nearly 100 trees over several months. The environmental damage is estimated at 600 thousand UAH.
What Punishment They Face
The accused have been informed of suspicion under Part 2, Part 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal logging in protective forests, transportation, storage, and sale of chopped timber). They face up to 7 years of imprisonment.
