Tougher Pregnancy Travel Rules for Ryanair: New Medical Certificate Required to Board.
Updated Policy for Expectant Mothers Flying with Ryanair
According to Novyny.live: Ryanair has introduced stricter regulations for pregnant passengers. Women whose pregnancies have exceeded 28 weeks will now be denied boarding unless they present a specific medical certificate. This document must be issued no more than two weeks before the scheduled flight date.
Under the revised rules, passengers with a single pregnancy can fly without a certificate up to the 28-week mark. However, those expecting twins or triplets will need a doctor's note for travel between 28 and 32 weeks, and flights are completely prohibited after 32 weeks for multiple pregnancies. For women carrying one child, travel with a certificate is permitted only up to 36 weeks.
Safety Measures During Air Travel
These changes are designed to protect the health and safety of both mother and child while in the air. In a separate development, Ryanair also announced the closure of its Berlin base, effective October 24, 2026. This move is part of the airline's ongoing strategy to adjust to shifting market demands.
The tightening of pregnancy travel rules highlights a broader industry trend toward prioritizing passenger safety and maternal well-being. The new requirements likely stem from a rise in late-term pregnancies among travelers, which can increase medical risks during flights. Meanwhile, the decision to shut down operations in Berlin reflects Ryanair's continuous efforts to streamline its network in response to changing economic conditions and customer demand.
