Fraudsters swindled 71 thousand through 'Winter Thousand': monobank warned about a new scheme.
Co-founder of monobank warned about a new fraud scheme
Co-founder of monobank, Oleg Gorokhovsky, warned about the increasing prevalence of a new fraud scheme related to the 'Winter Thousand' program. According to him, fraudsters called clients pretending to be 'application receivers' for receiving the payment.
One example is that a trusting client transferred 71 thousand hryvnias to a specially created account in hopes of receiving a thousand hryvnias in state assistance.
At the same time, official statistics show that more than 2.3 million Ukrainians have received payments of one thousand hryvnias to National cashback cards. Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov reported that 63% of recipients spent the funds on utility bills, 17% on mobile top-ups, and 4% directed assistance to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Assistance was received by 1.8 million adults and 520 thousand children. The process of crediting funds continues, so citizens who have not yet received the payment are advised to wait for the banks to process applications.
