Verdict from the Horodotskyi District Court

According to TSN.ua: A woman has been convicted by the Horodotskyi District Court in Ukraine's Lviv region for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme on the Telegram messaging app. The defendant, a local resident, deceived a victim out of 127,400 Ukrainian hryvnias by promising to organize a trip to Egypt. All communication and fraudulent activity originated within Telegram.

The Fraudulent Operation

The scam began in late January 2025 when the victim started transferring money to the defendant's account. Over the following months, the woman received several payments:

  • In February, sums ranged from 3,000 to 30,000 hryvnias;
  • A single transfer of 60,000 hryvnias was made in March;
  • The victim made final payments of 11,000 hryvnias each in April.

This was the defendant's first criminal offense. The court noted she has an incomplete higher education and was officially unemployed at the time of the trial. Her actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). The sentence imposed was 1 year and 6 months of probationary supervision.

This case underscores the ongoing issue of online fraud and the critical need for caution when using digital services.

With the increasing prevalence of online transactions, more people are falling victim to such scams, highlighting the necessity for greater public awareness of potential risks and protective measures. Travel-related scams are a common tactic used by fraudsters targeting individuals online.
