Kyiv District Heating System Crippled by SBU Raid, Leaving 2,600 Buildings Without Heat.
SBU Raids on Kyiv's Heating Utility
According to Novyny.live: On February 12-13, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) conducted searches at the main office of 'Kyivteploenerho,' paralyzing the company's operations. This marks the 103rd procedural action taken against the utility since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. The raids occurred against the backdrop of an emergency: 2,600 buildings lost heating following a Russian missile and drone attack on the night of February 12.
The Kyiv City State Administration stated that the SBU's actions crippled the utility's work immediately after the air strike. Law enforcement sent 188 requests for documentation and materials, further complicating efforts to restore normal operations. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 of the company's energy workers are currently working to repair the damage from the attack.
Kyiv City Administration's Response
The Kyiv City State Administration has accused law enforcement of disregarding the safety of the entire city and its residents, and of deliberately slowing the process of restoring heat, calling it a form of conscious political pressure. These events have caused significant concern among the capital's residents, as the heating supply situation remains critical. District heating systems are vital for survival during Ukraine's harsh winters, making such disruptions particularly dangerous.
The situation with the raids on 'Kyivteploenerho' underscores the tension in operating critically important infrastructure enterprises during wartime.
While law enforcement agencies carry out their duties, the consequences of such actions can have serious repercussions for a population already suffering from heating supply disruptions. It is crucial that all parties consider the needs of citizens during this difficult time, as the stability of life in the capital depends on their safety.
