The Security Service of Ukraine has announced suspicion against the commander of the Russian regiment who ordered strikes on energy facilities with Kinzhal missiles

According to ТСН: The Security Service of Ukraine announced a in absentia suspicion against Colonel Oleksiy Yamakid, who previously commanded the 44th Separate Special Purpose Aviation Regiment of the Russian Federation. The investigation established that he directly ordered attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles.

According to law enforcement, new information confirms that the Russian military leadership deliberately aims to destroy thermal and electric generation in Ukraine, leaving the civilian population without heating and light during the winter period.

"The Security Service documented new episodes of enemy attacks, when Yamakid specifically ordered to use hypersonic aeroballistic missile systems 9-S-7760 "Kinzhal" against Ukraine's energy facilities,"

— the report of the Security Service states.

Oleksiy Yamakid has been charged under the article concerning violations of the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, which led to loss of life (Part 2 of Article 28, Parts 1 and 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This is not the first charge against this figure — in the summer of 2025, he was also subject to investigation by the Security Service due to other episodes of mass shelling of Ukrainian territory.

The investigation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General. Currently, efforts are ongoing to locate the war criminal and measures for bringing him to justice.

Also, on December 27, the Russian army inflicted a combined strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, using strike drones, as well as air, sea, and ground-launched missiles. A total of 559 air targets were recorded, including Kinzhal missiles.

And on January 9, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine with missiles and drones, explosions were heard in Kyiv, Lviv, and Kyiv region. Four fatalities were recorded in the capital. The Air Forces confirmed that one of the missiles was the "Oreshnik".

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the use of the "Oreshnik" missile for the attack on Ukraine, considering it a "retaliatory strike" for the alleged attack on Putin's residence.

This episode underscores the dangers posed by the actions of Russian military personnel regarding Ukrainian infrastructure. The destruction of energy facilities jeopardizes the lives and welfare of thousands of civilians, especially during the winter period. The suspicion raised against Yamakid indicates an intensification of Ukrainian law enforcement efforts in combating war crimes of the previous regime.
