Ukrainian Security Service Nabs Russian Spy on a Bike Who Directed a Strike on Kharkiv.
Arrest of a Russian Intelligence Agent
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) detained an individual working for Russian military intelligence as he was preparing to send a fresh list of target coordinates to his handler. The arrest took place in August 2025 in the Kharkiv region, with the operation led by the regional prosecutor's office. The suspect turned out to be a local auto mechanic.
The Agent's Activities and Their Consequences
Recruited through Telegram channels, the agent was linked to guiding a strike on Kharkiv in June 2025. That attack, carried out by 'Geran-2' kamikaze drones, damaged residential buildings, a school, a supermarket, and private cars. The man would cycle around the city, scouting for potential targets used by Ukraine's defense forces.
During a search, authorities seized his smartphone, which contained evidence of collaboration with the enemy. A court found him guilty under Article 111, Part 2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This case follows a previous arrest of a Russian agent who directed an air attack on Kyiv on the night of May 24. Such incidents highlight the ongoing threat Russian operatives pose to Ukraine's national security.
This episode underscores the critical work of Ukrainian law enforcement in countering espionage and subversive activities that endanger national security.
The arrest demonstrates that Russian intelligence services continue to exploit modern technology to recruit and coordinate agents, seeking ways to influence the situation in Ukraine. Given the current security climate in the region, these efforts are vital for protecting civilians and the country's infrastructure.
