Arrest of a Russian Military Intelligence Agent
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has apprehended an agent of Russian military intelligence who was operating inside a Ukrainian Defense Ministry academy. The individual was attempting to pass classified information about cutting-edge unmanned aerial vehicle technologies to Moscow. The arrest occurred in his office as he was trying to dispatch documents to the Russian Federation.
The suspect, an associate professor at a Defense Ministry research center, was recruited by Russian special services through a contact in Russia. He has been charged under Article 111, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. The SBU confirmed that the accused is in custody without the possibility of bail, facing a potential life sentence and asset forfeiture.
Search and Seizure of Equipment
A search of the suspect's premises uncovered two mobile phones and computer hardware. The operation was conducted jointly with investigators from the SBU's Odesa regional office, under the procedural supervision of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
This case highlights the persistent threat of espionage and foreign intelligence activity in Ukraine, particularly concerning military and technological advancements.
