Ukrainian Security Service Detains Three for Pro-Kremlin Propaganda, Including a Doctor.
Detentions for Spreading Pro-Kremlin Propaganda
According to Novyny.live: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained three individuals suspected of disseminating pro-Kremlin propaganda and advocating for the seizure of Ukrainian territory. The arrests took place in the city of Cherkasy and the Kharkiv region. Among those detained is a local doctor from Cherkasy and a 29-year-old man from the Kharkiv region who was evading military mobilization. These actions are part of Ukraine's ongoing effort to counter internal threats during wartime.
The suspects had called for new missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, raising significant concerns among law enforcement. During searches, smartphones and computer equipment, which may contain evidence of their activities, were seized. The charges have been filed under Articles 109-2, 109-3 and Articles 436-2-1, 436-2-2, 436-2-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Under Ukrainian law, the suspects face up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Regional Context
These detentions occur against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions, particularly following a Russian missile strike on a hotel in Cherkasy on September 21, 2023. The SBU continues its work to identify and halt the activities of individuals who promote hostile narratives and threaten Ukraine's national security.
The apprehension of these suspects highlights the increased vigilance of Ukrainian authorities against informational threats during the war. It also reflects a broader national strategy to protect Ukraine's sovereignty and security, especially in light of recent escalations in the conflict with Russia.
