Xi Jinping seeks a successor: potential leaders of China

Young officials have been appointed to key leadership positions in China, which may indicate the country's leader Xi Jinping's readiness to pass power to a successor. According to Bloomberg, these young leaders are expected to reach the peak of their careers by the 2030s. 'The longer Xi Jinping holds power, the greater the likelihood that his successor will be a representative of the next generation after the seventies,' notes analyst Neil Thomas from the Asia Society Policy Institute. Liu Jie is one of the potential candidates; he is the youngest governor in China and heads the Zhejiang province. However, it is possible that Xi Jinping will keep his close allies in power for much longer, which would usher in a new era in the politics of the older generation in Beijing,' Thomas added.
