Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reported that over 90% of Ukrainian servicemen released from Russian captivity have been subjected to torture and cruel treatment. Russia systematically violates the norms of the Geneva Convention. During a briefing broadcasted by a correspondent from Novyny.LIVE, the minister himself noted that the conditions in which Ukrainian prisoners are held are absolutely inhumane. They are in critical states of physical and psychological exhaustion, do not receive medical assistance, or the opportunity to communicate with loved ones. The Office of the Prosecutor General has already recorded over 175,000 war crimes, but after the return of Ukrainian territories, even more horrific facts may emerge. The Russian side plans to conduct interviews with the captured soldiers of the 'Azovstal' battalion, and information about the abuse of Ukrainian prisoners was shared by an investigator from Mariupol who was released from Russian captivity in July 2024. Unfortunately, news about Ukrainian prisoners of war being subjected to torture and cruel treatment in Russian captivity indicates horrific violations of international standards and human rights and confirms the importance of international reaction to these events.
