Ukrainian Drone Units Hit 90 Russian Vessels in the Sea of Azov Over One Week.
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Score Major Hits
According to UATV: Over the past week, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces struck 90 Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov, Commander Robert Brovdi reported on July 12, 2023. On average, Ukrainian drones launched an attack on a Russian ship every 112 minutes.
The targets included:
- 10 tankers
- 4 Russian ferries
According to Brovdi, the tankers were used by occupying forces to transport Russian oil in violation of international sanctions. The ferries, meanwhile, supported military logistics and cargo shipments for the Russian armed forces. Prior to these strikes, Ukraine’s defense forces also hit the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region.
Strategic Impact of the Attacks
These operations highlight Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian military logistics and supply chains in the region. By targeting vessels in the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian forces aim to hinder resource flows that sustain Russian combat operations.
The destruction of Russian ships underscores the strategic importance of controlling maritime routes in wartime. These strikes also demonstrate the growing effectiveness of Ukraine’s unmanned systems, which are becoming a critical tool in modern warfare. For an English-speaking audience, this development illustrates how drone technology is reshaping naval conflict and supply-line warfare in real time.
