Heavy Rainfall Triggers Major Flooding in Chechnya and Dagestan: State of Emergency Declared.
Flooding Hits Chechnya and Dagestan
According to TSN.ua: Torrential downpours have caused widespread flooding across Chechnya and Dagestan, prompting local authorities to declare a state of emergency. The emergency measures took effect on March 29 in Grozny and nine municipal districts of Chechnya. More than 1,800 households across 18 settlements have been affected, with close to 2,000 homes submerged by floodwaters.
Hundreds of residents have been evacuated as a result of the natural disaster. The flooding also damaged 28 roads and 17 bridges, while 5 gas pipelines and 6 transformer stations were knocked out of service. A state of emergency has been declared in Makhachkala and the Khasavyurtovsky District of Dagestan as well, where two bridges collapsed. The situation remains critical, and local emergency services are continuing their efforts to mitigate the flood's impact.
Aftermath and Response
Flooding from heavy rains can have severe consequences for local populations and infrastructure. Declaring a state of emergency allows authorities to mobilize resources to address the disaster's aftermath and ensure public safety. Recovery in the affected regions may be prolonged, especially given the damage to roads, bridges, and other key infrastructure components.
