During the celebration of Youth Day in Lviv, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi spoke out against the criticism of those who dance, rejoice, and participate in cultural events during the war. He emphasized that joy and traditions are an important part of Ukrainian identity and should not become taboo. According to the mayor, the enemy aims to deprive Ukrainians not only of their state but also of the ability to live against the circumstances.
'Today in Ukraine, a new taboo has emerged — against joy. Celebrating has become 'unethical'. One can curse, insult, devalue, lie, but not rejoice. These are the realities of war,' the mayor of Lviv noted. In his Telegram channel, Sadovyi mentioned that he saw young people dancing the Drih in Shevchenkivskyi Hay. He pointed out that the reaction of those who criticized the celebrations mostly came from those who are not in Ukraine or who hide their faces. The Mayor of Lviv emphasized that the enemy wants to destroy everything that forms a sense of the nation, including joy, holidays, and the ability to live against the circumstances. He called for not being ashamed of such phenomena, as they are a component of national identity. Sadovyi concluded that the youth who remained in Ukraine are the best representatives of the nation, who learn, fight, work, create, and live, so these values should not be 'canceled'. Earlier, the Mayor of Lviv visited the positions of Ukrainian military on the Donetsk front and provided assistance to the defenders in the amount of 8.6 million hryvnias. A separate residential complex for internally displaced persons is also planned to be built in Lviv to provide them with permanent housing, as a significant part of the displaced remains in temporary accommodation.During the war, it is important not to forget about joy, holidays, and the Ukrainian identity. The Mayor of Lviv emphasized that these are components that need to be protected and expressed, even in such difficult times.
