Ukraine needs $120 billion next year: Shmyhal named the sum for the army.
According to inkorr.com: Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that Ukraine needs at least $120 billion next year to support the front and reduce losses among defenders if the conflict with Russia continues. These words were spoken during the YES conference.
Shmyhal emphasized that even in the event of the war ending, Ukraine will have to allocate significant funds to support the army in case of possible renewed aggression from Russia. He urged to mobilize all possible resources to accomplish these tasks.
“The economy of war shows that if we spend less money than Russia, then we begin to pay with our territories and, most importantly, our lives. Therefore, we need to attract all necessary sources, all necessary funds.”
Moreover, Shmyhal noted that after prolonged expenditures on the war, many Ukrainian taxpayers are already feeling fatigued. He supported the idea of using frozen Russian assets to compensate for the losses incurred by Ukraine and other countries. The Prime Minister emphasized that this can be implemented without confiscation, considering the complexity of legal procedures.
The war with Russia may cost Ukraine a significant amount of funds that need to be mobilized to support the front and armed forces. Shmyhal called for searching for all possible sources to meet the country's needs, including using Russian assets for compensation of damages. Ukraine continues to prepare for a possible escalation of the conflict with its eastern neighbor.
The scale of financial needs that the Prime Minister speaks of indicates a troubling state of affairs in Ukraine. Whatever the situation on the front, it is important for the country to be able to secure resources for defense and recovery. Utilizing frozen assets may become an important step in this process; however, its implementation will require efforts at the international level.Read also
