The Kremlin accuses Ukraine of a drone attack on Putin: what is really known.
According to ТСН: Shortly after a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin accused Kyiv, claiming that there was allegedly an attempt to attack Vladimir Putin's residence using 91 drones. In Moscow, this was called a 'terrorist act,' and it was stated that Ukraine's actions undermine peace negotiations and show disrespect towards the United States.
Commentary from the Analyst
The situation was commented on by Julian Repke, an analyst from the German publication BILD. The President of Ukraine denied these accusations, characterizing them as 'lies' and 'nonsense.'
Julian Repke expressed doubts about the truthfulness of the Kremlin's version. He reminded that during the full-scale war, there was only one confirmed case involving a drone near the Kremlin in May 2023, when a drone exploded on one of the domes. Repke also noted that Volodymyr Zelensky was dissatisfied with this attack.
'According to our information, the unit that carried out that attack had serious problems. Despite the war, there was an unspoken agreement not to strike the Kremlin, the president's administration, the Federation Council, or the State Duma,' the analyst noted.
Lack of Evidence
However, the Russian side did not provide any evidence of the new attack. Journalists from the independent publication 'We Can Explain' interviewed 14 residents of Valdai, a locality near Putin's residence. All the interviewees stated that they had heard neither explosions nor the operation of air defense systems, nor the characteristic noise of drones, and had not received any SMS warnings.
'There was no noise that night. If something had happened, the whole city would have been talking about it,' said one of the local residents.
Possible Kremlin Intentions
Julian Repke believes that groundless accusations could be used by the Kremlin as an informational pretext for further escalation of the conflict, particularly to justify strikes on government buildings in Kyiv. In his opinion, Russia is currently not interested in negotiations.
'The Russians see an opportunity to break Ukraine at all levels. They are trying to attack everywhere at once, believing that Ukraine is weakened and its armies find it increasingly difficult to maintain positions,' he noted.
The analyst also points out the possible logic of the Kremlin: the current military campaign is intended to lead at least to the complete seizure of annexed territories, and under favorable conditions, to further advance into Ukraine.
To support this version, Repke cites a recent statement by Vladimir Putin that Russia is no longer interested in negotiations regarding the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas, as the Kremlin considers this territory controllable and subject to capture by force.
Peskov threatened Kyiv with a response, stating that the Russian military knows how and when to respond to Ukraine's actions. He also shamelessly stated that the alleged attempt by Kyiv to attack the residence is aimed at disrupting the negotiation process and against the peaceful efforts of US President Donald Trump.
Thus, the current situation between Ukraine and Russia remains tense. The Kremlin continues to accuse Kyiv of unjustified actions, not providing any evidence, while the international community monitors the developments. The overview of expert comments underscores that groundless statements can become a propaganda tool aimed at escalating the conflict.
