Zelensky on Donbas: Ukraine does not recognize the territory as Russian.
According to ТСН: President Volodymyr Zelensky shared his thoughts on the possibility of creating a buffer zone in the Donbas.
During a conversation with journalists after negotiations in Berlin, he noted that the positions of the Russian side remain unchanged — they seek to fully control the Ukrainian Donbas.
“Our position is practical, real, fair; we stand on it, we do not want to give up our Donbas. The Americans want to find a compromise; they propose a free economic zone. I emphasize again — a free economic zone does not mean under Russian control. These are important aspects for me in any format for the Donbas,”he explained.
The President emphasized that Ukraine has recognized the Donbas as Russian “neither de jure nor de facto.”
“However, we will discuss the issue regarding the territory. You know that this is one of the key issues (the question — Ed.). We do not yet have a consensus on this matter. I will be frank,”Zelensky concluded.
Earlier, he also talked about a personal conversation with Donald Trump, during which future documents regarding security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed.
The discussion of creating a buffer zone in the Donbas indicates ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. The President's statements emphasize Ukraine's readiness for dialogue but also clearly assert its territorial rights. In the context of international support, notably from the U.S., the question remains open regarding the real steps that could lead to an improvement in the situation in the east of the country.
