Product prices before the New Year: which goods are rising sharply and which will fall.
According to ТСН: Product prices in Ukraine ahead of the New Year holidays show an ambiguous dynamic: eggs and chicken are significantly rising in price, while the market for dairy products is experiencing serious fluctuations.
Price forecasts
Director of the Economic Discussion Club Oleg Pendzin predicts that prices for products will rise by 7-10% in December due to increased demand before the holidays and costs for generators for storage. This will likely exceed the overall inflation level. Eggs may reach 80-100 UAH per dozen, milk — 80 UAH per liter (+10 UAH), and pork — 300 UAH per kilogram (+20 UAH). After the holidays, prices may stabilize or even decrease, especially for fatty dairy products, which may drop by 30-35%.
Chicken market status
Analyst of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business Maksym Hopka notes a gradual increase in chicken prices (within 2-6% depending on the type of meat).
“In the last month, the price of fillet increased by 2% to 244 UAH/kg, thigh — by 6% to 146 UAH/kg. A whole chicken on average costs 119-127 UAH/kg,” the expert states.
At the same time, he emphasizes that the supply in the market remains sufficient, and producers are not interested in artificially raising prices. Therefore, no significant price hikes for chicken are expected before the holidays.
Expectations of price decreases
Experts believe that due to war risks and holiday rush leading to price increases of 7-10% for certain categories of goods, prices may indeed rise. However, a gradual decrease is anticipated in January. For now, it is worth considering purchasing long shelf-life products.
For example, meat for freezing, canned goods, and dry products should be bought now — by December 15, when supermarkets offer discounts. After December 20, an increase in meat and delicacy prices is expected, but prices for dairy products should remain stable.
It was previously reported that dairy prices in Ukraine would decrease before Christmas, but this will be a short-term price drop.
Thus, Ukrainians may face changes in product prices in the coming weeks. It is recommended to plan purchases in advance, as the holiday period traditionally leads to price fluctuations, and there is also significant demand for certain goods. At the same time, it is essential to monitor market changes, as the situation may change, especially in conditions of instability related to the war. According to the latest forecasts, after the holidays price stabilization and reduction may become a reality, which will be an important factor for planning household food expenses.
