The doctor revealed the secret: cheese can prevent a hangover after the holiday.
According to ТСН: Winter holidays are usually accompanied by lavish gatherings with family and friends. However, excessive alcohol consumption can ruin the mood the next morning. A doctor from the UK advises paying attention to one important product that can help avoid unpleasant consequences.
Cheese for hangover prevention
A resuscitation doctor, known on TikTok as @neenziemd, claims that eating cheese can help avoid a hangover, so it's worth having a cheese platter on the festive table.
«If you are going to spend the evening with loved ones and consume alcohol, eat some pieces of cheese beforehand. Cheese has a high content of protein, fat, and complex carbohydrates that line the stomach and reduce alcohol absorption,» the doctor explained.
Cheese helps the body process alcohol more effectively and protects the liver from negative effects. It also replenishes reserves of beneficial substances like vitamin B and calcium, which are actively lost during alcohol consumption.
The doctor also emphasizes that calcium supports the health of the nervous and muscular systems, while vitamin B is important for energy and metabolism.
«The best alcohol is the refusal of it, but if you plan to drink, first eat cheese,» advises the specialist.
The effect of alcohol on the body
A family doctor from the 'LloydsPharmacy' network, Bhavini Shah, talked about the effects of different doses of alcohol on the body and when a hangover occurs.
According to the expert, one to two units of alcohol (a unit is 10 ml of pure alcohol) stimulate the heartbeat and make a person more sociable. However, after four to six units, the nervous system begins to suffer: reaction slows down and the ability to make adequate decisions deteriorates.
The doctor considers eight units of alcohol to be the critical limit — this is approximately four standard glasses of wine or four pints of light beer. At this stage, the liver does not have time to process toxins overnight, leading to a difficult morning with visual disturbances and sleep disruptions.
If the alcohol dose exceeds ten units, it can lead to serious intoxication with coordination disturbances, nausea, dehydration, and severe headache.
Therefore, it is important to remember how alcohol affects the body, especially during the holidays. Proper nutrition, including eating cheese, can help mitigate the effects of alcohol. This can be a real lifesaver for those who want to enjoy festive gatherings without suffering from a hangover.
