Theobromine in dark chocolate slows aging: a new discovery by scientists

According to ТСН: Dark chocolate may not only have a delicious taste but also a healthy impact on the body. New scientific research has revealed that one of its components — theobromine — may influence human biological aging.

The main ingredient in dark chocolate is cocoa, which contains theobromine — a natural compound. According to researchers, it can reduce biological age by decreasing cell damage over time.

It is believed that theobromine helps control blood pressure, activates fat metabolism, improves circulation, and supports cognitive functions, preventing age-related declines in mental abilities.

However, scientists have not yet figured out how theobromine affects the aging process. Researchers are still uncertain whether this effect is characteristic only of theobromine or if it can interact with other compounds found in dark chocolate, particularly polyphenols, which are also beneficial for health.

The Impact of Plant Compounds on the Body

Plant components in the diet can influence the aging process by changing the activation or deactivation of certain genes. Experts have confirmed that dark chocolate, due to its high content of antioxidants and minerals, can slow down age-related changes, prevent the development of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, it positively affects memory and brain functions.

“This is a very interesting discovery, and the next important questions are what underlies this connection and how can we further investigate the interaction between dietary metabolites and our epigenome? Such an approach could lead us to significant discoveries in the field of aging and, moreover, in the field of common and rare diseases,” said researcher Rami Saad.

Although the research results are promising, scientists caution against excessive chocolate consumption.

Previously, scientists found that consuming cocoa and supplements derived from it does not reduce the overall risk of developing hypertension but can help prevent its occurrence in people with normal blood pressure.

These results emphasize the importance of studying the effects of foods on health and aging. Dark chocolate can be a delicious addition to the diet, but it's important to remember moderation. Research continues, and new discoveries may expand our knowledge of nutrition and health.
