Scholz commented on unemployed refugees from Ukraine.
German Chancellor urged Ukrainian refugees to seek work
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged Ukrainian refugees to seek work. He emphasized the necessity of swiftly integrating hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians into the German labor market and called for the removal of bureaucratic barriers that impede this process.
Scholz provided a concrete example illustrating the scale of the problem: out of 2000 Ukrainian doctors who came to Germany wishing to work, only 120 received the necessary permit. Such a situation, in the Chancellor's opinion, is unacceptable and requires immediate correction.
The head of the German government noted some progress in this direction. Thanks to the Job-Turbo initiative introduced by the German Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the number of employed Ukrainians has risen to 200 thousand people.
"But there would be a few hundred thousand more, so to speak. That's why I would like to see the job done," said the Chancellor.
Scholz acknowledged that immediate employment in a position similar to the one held in Ukraine is not always possible. However, he called for flexibility, suggesting that part-Time employment options be considered as the first step towards full integration into the German labor market.
He also highlighted structural issues that hinder effective employment of Ukrainians. Among them are excessive bureaucratization of processes in federal states and a large number of parallel organizations responsible for recognizing professional degrees and qualifications. In his view, this complexity significantly hinders progress in resolving the issue.
