Scholz: Putin planned the war against Ukraine two years before the invasion.
According to ТСН: Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the Kremlin's decision for a full-scale aggression against Ukraine was made even before the invasion began and was not a consequence of the circumstances at that time.
Scholz noted that the Kremlin leader had long been preparing for war and emphasized that diplomatic efforts would hardly have stopped him.
“Today I am firmly convinced that Putin planned his attack two years before it happened, and very little could have deterred him from it,” said Scholz.
He stressed that Russia could have achieved its key goals without military intervention, particularly regarding Ukraine's non-aligned status or demands to abandon the deployment of long-range missiles on its territory.
“All of this could have been obtained without war,” said the former chancellor.
Scholz also noted that this indicates a conscious choice by the Kremlin:
“This means that he wanted war,” emphasized Scholz.
The former head of the German government commented on the criticism of the pace of arms supplies to Ukraine. According to him, public discussions did not reflect real assistance and the complexities of organizing military supplies.
Scholz added that the decision to support Ukraine was made in close coordination with international partners, taking into account the possible reaction of Russia. He noted that the limits of what was acceptable regarding military assistance were determined in practice, depending on the situation.
Earlier, it was reported that the European Union intended to take the initiative for a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine to avoid unilateral control by Washington.
In addition, a political scientist from Switzerland, Andres Resch, expressed an opinion that Putin's policy is leading Russia to disaster, weakening it and making it even more dependent on external factors.
Olaf Scholz's statements highlight the complexity of international politics in times of war and the questions arising around military assistance to Ukraine. The situation remains tense, and the developments still require careful observation by the world community, as international relations continue to change under the influence of Russia's aggression and the reactions of other countries.
