Farion's associate explained why he did not sign the petition for awarding her the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Konotop Mayor, Andriy Semenikhin, a member of the "Svoboda" party, did not sign the petition to award Iryna Farion the title of Hero of Ukraine. In an interview with "Glavkom," Semenikhin explained why he did not support the posthumous awarding of his colleague.
I tried several times to sign this petition, but the system interfered with me. I am very ashamed that I did not do this. Perhaps, I am not literate enough. I also tried to sign the petition for my friends who died on the front, but it did not work out
Semenikhin emphasized that for him, Iryna Farion is an ideal of the struggle for a Ukrainian Ukraine and a just state.
She is my mentor. When we were renaming streets in the city, I suggested which surnames to pay attention to, according to her idea
The Mayor of Konotop hopes that Iryna Farion will be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and considers this a wise move by the president.
Earlier, "Glavkom" reported that among the first 25 thousand signatories of the petition for awarding Iryna Farion the title of Hero of Ukraine, there were no Farion's party members - Oleh Tyahnybok, Bohdan Beniuk, Ihor Shvaika, and others.
Let us recall that 25 thousand Ukrainians signed the petition. The petition itself demanded that Iryna Farion be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for her contribution to the preservation of Ukrainian statehood and the strengthening of the positions of the Ukrainian language.
Iryna Farion, who died in 2024, initiated many projects, including the political poster and drawing contest "Language - the basis of your life," the project of popularizing the Ukrainian book "From Book to Goal," and the TV programs "The Greatness of Personality" and "The Gene of Ukrainians." She was also actively involved in political activity and the protection of the Ukrainian language.
