Myth or truth: to boil or to heat sausages?

Yes, we have figured out what MMOs are, whether to be wary of E-additives, and how important it is for a product to be prepared according to TU or GOST.

All these questions were related to the choice of product. But here are the sausages you bought, brought home, and what do you do before serving them at the table? Probably, you will boil them, as most people do.

Semi-finished product or ready-made product?

'Sausages must be boiled before consumption' - yet another myth that has persisted since Soviet times. Remember how we all used to rinse pasta? And then we found out that it was unnecessary, and got acquainted with durum pasta that did not stick after boiling. Is it the same with sausages?

Sausages themselves are already a ready-made product that does not require thermal processing. But since it is more familiar and pleasant to eat warm food, sausages can be heated. And here is the key difference between 'boiling' and 'heating.'

How to properly heat sausages

Immerse the product in salted boiling water (2 liters of water and 30 grams of salt per kilogram of sausages), reduce the heat and let them heat up. Heat chilled sausages for 3-5 minutes over medium heat, frozen sausages for 5-8 minutes. The main thing is that the time spent by sausages in warm water should not exceed 20 minutes. Do not heat above 85 °.

  • Food manufacturers should take into account that modern people live at a fast pace. Cooking should not take much time, and our task is to make the product as ready for consumption as possible. That is why in the product line of TM Bashchynskiy, there are sausages that are already boiled, peeled, and cooled. You can eat them immediately or heat them up, using them as the basis for delicious dishes. This type of product is labeled 'without casing and ready for consumption' on the packaging.

Trusting, we heat, not trusting - we boil?

We decided to ask Kyiv residents how they prefer to eat sausages.

'When I buy sausages at the market, I definitely boil them well, I take precautions. Store-bought ones I only hold in boiling water for a short while - and serve them to my family,' shared 54-year-old housewife Tatyana Boyko.

And plastic window installer Igor Volokhno mentioned that he often eats them cold, right out of the package: 'If I have no time, I take sausages from a company I trust and eat them with some bun or add vegetables and ketchup to make a kind of cold hot dog.'

Similar responses were noted from other respondents: most emphasized that they tend to boil or fry longer any product they are uncertain about.

And they have every reason to do so - we understood this when we got acquainted with reports from several research companies about the Ukrainian sausage market.

After conducting research, we learned that sausages, as a ready-made product, can simply be heated before consumption. This will make them more pleasant to eat, but boiling may be unnecessary, as this process is not mandatory. It also turned out that many people prefer to boil sausages they are unsure about, while those they trust can eat them cold or just slightly heated.
