Arachamiya Unveils Election Plan After the War: Presidential Elections and Referendum in 90 Days.
According to ТСН: The head of the "Servant of the People" faction, David Arachamiya, during a meeting of the working group of the Verkhovna Rada, which is preparing changes to the electoral legislation, spoke about the possible electoral process after the end of the war.
He noted that a variant with a clear timeframe of 90 days is being considered.
What will the schedule be?
Arachamiya explained how this time could be divided:
30 days — for preparatory work and creating a legislative framework;
60 days — for conducting the elections themselves.
During this period, it is planned to conduct both a nationwide referendum and the presidential elections of Ukraine simultaneously.
Why presidential elections first and not parliamentary elections?
In Arachamiya's opinion, organizing presidential elections is easier from a legal standpoint, particularly regarding the participation of military personnel.
“It is a bit easier to move with the President of Ukraine because the issue of military involvement will be limited. Usually, several dozen people participate in presidential elections.”
Additionally, this strategy will allow for testing the system. If problems arise during the presidential elections and the referendum, they can be fixed before organizing more complex elections to the Verkhovna Rada.
How can military personnel be candidates?
Arachamiya confirmed that current legislation already has a mechanism for military personnel wishing to engage in political activity.
To do this, they need to:
Submit a report to the commander.
Obtain a three-month leave.
Use this time for campaigning and conducting the election campaign.
Arachamiya emphasized that this mechanism is clear and less conflictual for individual presidential candidates than if military personnel participated en masse in parliamentary elections.
It is worth noting that within the "Servant of the People" faction, they are proposing a "hybrid" voting model — online and offline — to give Ukrainians more opportunities to express their opinions. According to Arachamiya, this is important because low voter turnout can be used by the enemy to challenge their legitimacy.
The introduction of a new electoral process after the end of the war will be an important step in restoring democratic foundations in Ukraine. The presidential elections and simultaneous referendum may not only allow for a renewal of power but also to discuss key issues facing society. This comprehensive approach will allow for adapting the electoral system to new conditions, considering the challenges currently facing the country.Read also
