On the Case of Haidai: Why Courts Do Not Release Ukraine's Heroes on Bail.
Lawyer Rostislav Kravets is convinced that the case against the former head of the Mukachevo District State Administration, Serhiy Haidai, is provocative and aimed at undermining Ukraine's defense capabilities. He emphasizes that in the modern law enforcement system, the title of Hero of Ukraine or veteran is not a significant argument.
The Lawyer's Opinion on the Charges
According to Rostislav Kravets, Serhiy Haidai indeed worked for the benefit of Ukraine, but courts are currently unwilling to release him on bail. Many military personnel are ready to stand up for Haidai, claims the lawyer.
The lawyer also noted that the accused is involved in a corruption case, not in a crime against humanity. However, courts refuse to release veterans or Heroes of Ukraine on bail because of this.
The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine chose preventive measures for Serhiy Haidai and Vladyslav Marchenko in the corruption case related to the procurement of drones and EW systems. Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Haidai from his position as head of the Mukachevo District State Administration and Yurchenko, who headed the Rubizhne Military Administration.
The case against the former head of the Mukachevo District State Administration raises disputes regarding the suspect, his official activities, and relationships with other officials. Lawyers argue that the title of veteran or Hero of Ukraine should not influence the administration of justice.
