US President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the country from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. He explained this by its 'anti-American' and 'anti-Israeli' sentiments, as well as its 'progressive' views.
Trump has made the decision for the USA to exit UNESCO
The White House has not yet commented on this decision, as the request was made outside of working hours. However, the media has already spread the information about the USA's exit from the Paris agency, which was created after World War II to promote peace and cooperation in education, science, and culture.
Earlier, during his first presidential term, Trump had the USA exit several important international organizations and agreements: the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, the global agreement on climate change, and the nuclear deal with Iran. However, with Joe Biden's coming to power in 2021, America returned to most of them, including UNESCO and WHO.
Trump's comments about 'anti-American' and 'anti-Israeli' sentiments in UNESCO may provoke discussions about the USA's role in international organizations and their relations with other countries. Trump's decision continues the trend of leaving international agreements, but its further consequences still need to be considered and analyzed.Read also
