Emergency Response Team Holds Meeting on Critical Infrastructure

According to Novyny.live: A meeting of the emergency response team for Kyiv and the surrounding region was held on January 26, focusing on the urgent restoration of heating and electricity for residents. The session prioritized the need to get these vital services back online as quickly as possible.

Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine's Minister of Energy, reported the meeting's outcomes via Telegram. He noted that over the past week, 31 tons of cargo had been received from Spain, Finland, Norway, and Austria to support the repair of the region's heating and power systems. A major shipment of generators from Lithuania and the European Union is also expected soon, which should further aid recovery efforts. These international deliveries are crucial for a city facing severe infrastructure challenges.

Current Heating Situation in the Capital

As of January 26, more than a thousand buildings in Kyiv remain without heat, underscoring the critical nature of the ongoing work. Shmyhal stated that the meeting involved substantive discussions with regional businesses. Department heads reported on daily results and discussed the needs and capabilities of local enterprises. This dialogue is expected to yield additional megawatts of power from business-owned generation in the near term.

Furthermore, Shmyhal emphasized the priority of maintaining communication and digital coordination systems. He confirmed that generators have been distributed to municipal enterprises and service providers, which should assist in mitigating the crisis and restoring normal infrastructure operations. The broader context involves a sustained, large-scale effort to repair critical services damaged by ongoing attacks.
