Vasyl Malyuk agreed to resign as head of the SBU: what is the reason.
According to ТСН: The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, after a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky, decided to resign. At first, he resisted this step, explaining his position and discussing possible candidates for his replacement.
Malyuk's reluctance to resign and Zelensky's reaction
During the meeting with the president, Malyuk explained that he refused to resign due to unfinished important operations. He emphasized that leaving them at this stage would be a mistake. At the same time, he noted that if the president insists on his resignation, this issue should be brought before the Verkhovna Rada.
This refusal caused dissatisfaction in Zelensky. The president's advisers emphasized the active support of the general by the SBU. Zelensky, feeling the emotional burden of the situation, stated that he could remove Malyuk if he did not agree to resign.
Many deputies do not wish for the public consequences of such a decision, as most of society perceives him as an innovator in important military operations.
Malyuk's dismissal may be a revenge from Yermak
In the president's team, it is believed that Malyuk has become a symbol of the previously initiated 'attack' on NABU, from which the Office of the President is trying to distance itself. He is also accused of 'commercial' practices in the SBU. Those close to Malyuk believe that the resignation is revenge for his position during the scandalous events related to searches.
The president, holding a briefing, noted that he would make planned personnel changes, even without mentioning Malyuk by name, and would try to find legal grounds for his dismissal.
The pressure on Malyuk has increased, and he is being demanded not only to resign but also to issue public apologies.
Malyuk's agreement to resign and possible candidates for replacement
Despite widespread support from the military and deputies, Malyuk, understanding that conflict with the president could harm the state, ultimately decided to resign. The timing and manner of his dismissal, which requires parliamentary voting, must be resolved soon.
The acting head of the SBU could be the head of 'Alpha', Major General Yevhen Khmara. At the same time, the president is also considering the candidacy of General Oleksandr Poklad, but the new head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Budanov, is unlikely to support this candidacy as he has a conflict with him.
Let us remind you that in the past, Yermak tried to achieve Malyuk's resignation, while the latter called for the removal of Yermak himself.
Zelensky noted that he plans to conduct rotations in the leadership to optimize military and negotiation processes, but the question of Malyuk's resignation remains open.
The resignation of Vasyl Malyuk has caused a wide resonance in society and the political environment. The reaction of the president and other key figures demonstrates how tense the situation in the country remains. It remains to be seen how this decision will affect the further work of the Security Service and the overall security of the state.
