During operations in the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders managed to capture about 250 Russian conscripts. This was reported by The Washington Post.

WP journalists visited a Ukrainian prison in the northeast of the country, where prisoners from the Kursk region are sent.

Over the past 10 days, 320 Russians have been brought to the prison, most of whom are conscripts. The number of conscripts who ended up in the Ukrainian prison stands at approximately 250.

According to the prison chief, some of the captured individuals were very frightened upon first arrival, but then they adapted.

The journalists also spoke with Russians who ended up in captivity. They noted that most of the prisoners were not wounded.

Russian soldiers reported that they are treated well, provided with medical assistance, and fed three times a day.

Representatives of the Red Cross were also present in the prison, who visited the captured servicemen.

According to conscripts Nikolay and Sergey, they were captured after Ukraine attacked their military headquarters. They spent three days navigating forests and swamps and slept on the ground until they reached Ukrainian positions.

After being checked for weapons, Ukrainian soldiers gave them food, water, and cigarettes.

Nikolay said that Ukrainian soldiers communicated with them, shared their stories, and listened to theirs.

The atmosphere in one of the prison cells, where the senior prisoners were held, was gloomy. Among them were border guards and contract soldiers. Most of the men noted that this was their first combat experience, and they had not been sent to Ukraine before.

One of the prisoners said that out of 60 people he fought with, only four or five survived, as the rest refused to surrender and were killed.

Previously, a captured conscript from Kursk told how they defended against the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
