7.7 million Ukrainians are abroad, of which 5.3 million are in the EU

Currently, there are 7.7 million citizens of Ukraine abroad, of which 5.3 million live in the countries of the European Union. This was reported by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, citing the report of the temporary special commission of the Verkhovna Rada on the protection of IDP rights.

According to him, the data on the number of Ukrainians living abroad was obtained from foreign diplomatic representations.

The government of Ukraine has decided to rename the Ministry for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories to the Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine. Subsequently, the new Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov will present a development plan for this ministry, the team, and key performance indicators.

This decision is intended to contribute to the establishment of new standards of work and interaction with the Ukrainian community abroad, the number of which amounts to several million people due to migration processes.

It later became known that in early 2025, a pilot project for the return of Ukrainians from abroad would be launched. This project will be implemented initially in Germany under the guidance of the new ministry.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that it is necessary to encourage unemployed Ukrainians in Germany to find employment or return home. Many of them have been receiving social benefits for too long. This is not the first statement by Scholz regarding Ukrainian refugees; earlier he urged hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians displaced by the war to find work in Germany as soon as possible.

Let us remember that from March 1, 2025, Slovakia intends to reduce support for Ukrainian refugees. These changes will concern the duration of stay in shelters and the receipt of living assistance.
