Mandatory Military Status Starting at Age 25: Which Previously Restricted Individuals Could Be Drafted Earlier.
Understanding 'Military Obligation' Status in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, the status of 'military obligor' is granted to citizens who are registered for military service upon reaching the age of 25. However, individuals who were previously deemed fit with restrictions may be recognized as military obligors before that age. During the full-scale war, legislative changes eliminated the category of 'restrictedly fit for service.'
Those formerly classified as restrictedly fit must undergo a military medical board to receive a new status.
Yuriy Ayvazyan noted that 'after your son was declared restrictedly fit, he was placed in the reserve of military obligors.'This indicates that status can change based on medical findings. If a person is deemed fully fit, 'he would have remained in the status of a conscript,' Ayvazyan added.
Statuses During Mobilization
In the context of mobilization, former restrictedly fit individuals can receive various statuses, including:
- fully fit for service;
- fit for service in rear units;
- fit for service in Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs) or military educational institutions.
A TRC can mobilize a restrictedly fit person after their return to Ukraine, highlighting the importance of undergoing a military medical board to determine fitness for service.
These legislative changes reflect Ukraine's current wartime needs and underscore the necessity of adapting legal norms to new conditions. The reforms could significantly impact mobilization processes by providing greater flexibility and access to previously untapped human resources. Further legal adjustments are anticipated as military operations evolve and the army's requirements shift.
