Meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council convened after Russian strikes on Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg convenes a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of permanent representatives on Wednesday, August 28. This was reported by the secretary general's spokeswoman Farah Dakhall. According to Dakhalla, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is to address the Alliance members via video link to inform about the situation on the battlefield and priority needs in forces and resources. The meeting will be held in response to a wave of Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian populations and infrastructure. The spokesperson emphasized that NATO members have already provided significant support to Ukrainian air defense and remain committed to further strengthening Ukraine's defense.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on August 26, Russia launched 236 aerial attacks on Ukraine. Ukrainian forces managed to destroy 102 missiles and 99 attack drones. On the night of August 27, a new attack took place: the Russians launched 10 missiles of various types and 81 Shahed-type attack drones. Ukrainian forces managed to intercept five cruise missiles and 60 drones.
Following the massive Russian attack on Monday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reiterated his call to lift all existing restrictions on Ukraine's use of Western weapons to strike military targets in the Russian Federation.
