The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission reported Russian violations of the Geneva Conventions in a recent report on Ukraine. The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that the executions of Ukrainian soldiers constitute serious violations of IHL.

Regarding the videos of the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war: in June and August 2024, an analysis was conducted on the photos and videos circulating on social networks and Russian channels, which found no evidence that the photos and videos were fake. The analysis identified the execution site - the direction of Kolotyliivka (the intersection between Ukraine and Russia), where battles took place. The UN emphasized that these facts are serious violations of IHL. - said Lubinets.

According to the Monitoring Mission's data, since 24 February 2022, 42 Ukrainian soldiers have been executed.

Law enforcement officers have started investigating the information that Russian occupiers executed Ukrainian soldiers who were captured on the Pokrovske direction.

Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the alleged shooting of 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the Pokrovske direction.

The UN International Commission on Investigating Violations in Ukraine has found additional evidence of torture by Russia of Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war in occupied territories of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. New evidence confirms the previous conclusion of the commission that the torture committed by the Russian authorities is widespread.
