Detention of a Shooter in Vinnytsia: What is Known About the Attack Near the Shopping Center.
In Vinnytsia, near the shopping center on Pavlo Korneliuk Street, gunshots were heard. A man with a pistol has been detained. According to 'Hlavkom', this was reported by the police of the Vinnytsia region.
According to inkorr.com: Reports about the gunshots arrived at the police station around 16:10. The law enforcement officers quickly identified the shooter and detained him. He turned out to be a 31-year-old local resident who allegedly shot a 21-year-old man in the face with a pneumatic pistol during a conflict.
A Criminal Proceedings Has Begun
The victim is being examined by medical personnel. Currently, all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified, and the pistol has been seized for forensic examination. A criminal proceeding has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism), which provides for up to 7 years of imprisonment.
Declaration of Firearms in Ukraine
On November 25, 2024, the Law of Ukraine 'On Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defense of Ukraine' came into effect, aimed at regulating the obtaining, declaration, and use of firearms. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Bohdan Drapyi noted that there may be between two to five million units of unregistered weapons in Ukraine, raising serious security concerns.
A campaign for the voluntary declaration of firearms and ammunition is also ongoing in the country. The National Police reports that citizens have already declared 11,209 units of firearms and more than 5 million rounds of ammunition. Weapons can be declared at units of the National Police by submitting the required documents and the firearms themselves.
The Vinnytsia police detained a man with a pistol after the shooting near the shopping center. Operational actions helped identify the shooter and prevent possible further consequences. At the same time, the process of declaring firearms continues in Ukraine, which is an important step to enhance the level of security in the country.
