Father Oleksandr Bilsky’s Mission in Beryslav

According to Espreso.tv: Since 2011, Father Oleksandr Bilsky has been leading a growing religious community in Beryslav, starting with just four people. His work involves building a church, coordinating aid during the occupation, and establishing the Caritas Beryslav charity foundation. The first Easter liturgy was held in a trailer, attended by around 30 people. Over the next decade, donations made it possible to construct a church that has become a vital hub for the local population.

Charity Work During the Occupation

During the occupation of Beryslav, Bilsky organized a soup kitchen that served 130 to 150 meals daily to residents. The church became a refuge for those who lost their homes. After Russian forces withdrew, 95 percent of Beryslav lay in ruins—a stark reminder of how critical the priest’s efforts and his team’s support were during that devastating period.

On April 4, 2023, the Caritas Beryslav charity foundation was officially launched to continue assisting the community. One of its key projects is the “Little House of Happiness” children’s center, which now welcomes roughly 200 kids. For his outstanding service, Bilsky received the Cross of Civil Merit, but he insists the honor belongs to the broader team.

'I always say this is not my award, but the award for all the volunteers and donors who helped—both physically and through prayer,' Oleksandr Bilsky

Overall, Father Oleksandr Bilsky’s actions in Beryslav stand as a powerful example of dedication and community service during a crisis. His efforts have not only revived religious life but also provided vital support for those in desperate need.

Bilsky’s work highlights how religious leaders can play a crucial role in emergencies, offering both spiritual comfort and practical assistance. The creation of the Caritas Beryslav foundation and the children’s space underscores his commitment to supporting younger generations and rebuilding the local social fabric in a heavily damaged area. Such initiatives may prove essential for the community’s long-term recovery after the war.
