Win a Year on a Swedish Island: Visit Sweden Launches Unique Residency Contest.
Live on a Swedish Island for a Year: A New Contest
According to TSN.ua: Visit Sweden, the national tourism board, has launched an international competition offering five winners the chance to live for one year on five different Swedish islands. This initiative highlights Sweden's vast and unique geography, which includes over 267,000 islands, making it one of the world's most archipelagic nations. For those seeking a profound escape into nature, this is an unprecedented opportunity.
The application deadline is April 17th at 23:59 Central European Summer Time. Eligible participants must be 18 years or older and are required to submit a video of up to one minute in length. The winners will be announced in June, leaving ample time for prospective applicants to craft their entries.
The Islands Awaiting the Winners
The five islands selected for the winners are:
- Medbådan
- Flisan
- Storberget
- Tjuvholmen
- Marsten
Medbådan is situated approximately 35 km southwest of Umeå, while Tjuvholmen lies about 25 km north of Lidköping. The contest is designed to promote exploration of Sweden's diverse natural landscapes and cultural heritage, offering an immersive experience far from typical tourist paths.
This competition forms part of Sweden's broader strategy to boost tourism, particularly in the post-pandemic recovery phase. By spotlighting lesser-known islands, it aims to distribute visitor interest more evenly and support local economies. For adventurous individuals, it represents a remarkable chance to fully embrace the serene and distinctive lifestyle of Sweden's coastal communities.
