Sweden Grants €90 Million to Bolster Ukraine's War-Damaged Energy Grid.
Sweden Announces New Aid Package
According to UATV: Sweden has pledged a new aid package of approximately €90 million to support Ukraine's energy system and infrastructure recovery. The announcement was made on February 5th. Of this total, €53 million will be allocated to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which aims to strengthen the country's energy stability.
An additional sum exceeding €35 million will be directed to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This support is crucial as Russia has carried out 217 attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the start of the year. These sustained assaults have caused severe damage to the power grid, making international aid vital for both urgent repairs and long-term modernization of the energy sector.
Sweden is not backing down. This assistance is both immediate and long-term in its focus.
Joar Forssell, Swedish Government Representative
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Sweden for the aid, highlighting the importance of international solidarity during this challenging period for Ukraine's energy security.
The Critical Role of International Support
This latest Swedish aid package is part of broader international efforts to assist Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities and their devastating impact on critical infrastructure. Financial and material support from allied nations is essential for ensuring Ukraine's energy security and stability, which in turn underpins the country's overall recovery and resilience in the face of conflict.
