Ukraine's Energy Grid Under Attack: Kyiv and Regional Recovery Efforts Detailed by PM Sviridenko.
The State of Ukraine's Energy Sector
According to Novyny.live: On February 13, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko held her daily briefing on the energy situation, focusing on the impact of recent Russian military strikes. These attacks have created a severe crisis across all regions, with the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk oblasts and the capital, Kyiv, being particularly hard hit. The ongoing war has made Ukraine's energy infrastructure a constant target, severely testing its resilience.
Prime Minister Sviridenko noted that repair crews are doing everything possible to accelerate work at all damaged energy facilities. In Kyiv alone, more than 60 repair teams are currently working to restore electricity. As of today, over 130,000 customers in Odesa Oblast remain without power.
“In the capital, more than 60 crews are working to restore electricity, and repairs are also ongoing to bring back heating,” stated Yulia Sviridenko.
The Prime Minister added that expected frosts next week could further complicate the situation. “I have instructed the relevant ministries and regional military administration heads to prepare all necessary resources for a rapid response to potential new strikes during severe cold. If needed, additional resilience points and high-capacity generators will be deployed,” she said. The government continues to implement measures to improve the national energy situation.
The energy situation in Ukraine remains critical, especially during winter when demand for electricity spikes due to the cold. Continued Russian bombardments not only hinder the restoration of power but also create additional challenges for the energy infrastructure. The government's actions, aimed at rapid response and preparation for potential threats, underscore the severity of the crisis and the necessity of ensuring the stability of the country's energy systems.
