Sviridenko at the UN: Ukraine Will Demand Increased Pressure on Russia After Attack on Kiev.
According to FREEДOM:
Appeal to the International Community
Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko urged the international community to increase pressure on Russia following the recent massive attacks on Kiev. She made this statement during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, reported FREEДOM.
Victims of the Attack and Urgent Needs
The head of the Ukrainian government noted that 25 people had died due to Russian strikes, including four children, the youngest victim was only 2 years old. Sviridenko emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems.
'The illegal war waged by Russia must be stopped. All killings and attacks must end. Violations of the UN Charter must also cease. And we all know that this will happen as soon as Russia is stopped. Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems to protect our people and territory, as well as long-range munitions to neutralize the Russian military targets from which attacks are carried out,' said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Response of the International Community
During the same meeting, U.S. diplomat John Kelly expressed concern over Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine, noting that they call into question the Russians' desire for peace.
'The recent drone and missile attacks on Ukraine have resulted in numerous casualties among the civilian population. Residential areas, the EU delegation office in Kiev, and the building of the British Council have been damaged. All of this raises doubts about the sincerity of Russia's desire for peace. The United States calls on the Russian Federation to end the violence and engage constructively to bring the war to an end,' he emphasized.
Recent Events
It is important to note that on the night of August 30, Russian troops conducted a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine using drones and various types of missiles.
These events highlight the critical situation in Ukraine and the urgent need for support from the international community. Calls to action, such as those from the Ukrainian government, can be important steps towards ensuring peace and security in the region. The situation remains tense, and the further actions of international partners will be crucial for Ukraine during this difficult time.
