Alexander Valerievich Litvinenko - Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies (2019-2021), Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (2014-2019). Since July 23, 2021, he has been the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kiev. In 1994, he graduated from the Institute of Cryptography, Communication and Computer Science of the FSB Academy of Russia in Moscow, obtaining a degree as a Mathematical Engineer with a focus on Applied Mathematics.

In 1998, he obtained the scientific degree of Candidate of Political Sciences with a focus on 'Political Problems of International Systems and Global Development'. He defended his dissertation at the Institute of International Relations of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev.
In 2002, he obtained the highest scientific degree of Doctor of Political Sciences with a focus on 'Fundamentals of National State Security'. He defended his dissertation at the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

Career. From 1994 to 1998, he was an officer, then a senior officer, chief expert in information defense management of the main department of government communication of the Security Service of Ukraine.
1997-2007 - Assistant, part-time lecturer at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev. Since 2010, Professor.
1998-2007 - senior adviser, head of department, deputy director, first deputy director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.
From May 2005 to December 2007 - head of the department of state security issues, head of the expert commission, head of the state security department in the apparatus of the SNBO of Ukraine.

On July 23, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Alexander Litvinenko as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.
