According to TSN.ua: Two explosions detonated in central Lviv on February 22, 2023, resulting in tragedy. A young police officer, Viktoriia Shpilka, was killed, and more than 20 people were wounded. As of February 23, 12 of the injured remain hospitalized and are receiving medical care. Authorities have launched an investigation, classifying the incident as a terrorist attack. Suspect Apprehended at Border
A 33-year-old woman, Iryna Savetina, has been detained as the suspected perpetrator. She was arrested in the controlled border area of Staryi Sambir while attempting to leave the Lviv region. According to law enforcement, Savetina acted on instructions from handlers within Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and was promised a payment of 60,000 hryvnias for carrying out the crime.
Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi stated unequivocally, 'this is a terrorist attack.'
The court has ordered Savetina to be held in custody without the right to post bail. Prosecutor Nazar Markiv added that 'the suspicion is based on objective evidence indicating the detainee's commission of the terrorist act.' The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to establish the full circumstances and details of this horrific crime. The attack has heightened public concern and prompted calls for a thorough analysis of potential threats and countermeasures.
