Kharkiv Mayor: People Must Be the Central Focus of Ukraine’s Reconstruction.
Measuring Success in Ukraine’s Post-War Recovery
According to Novyny.live: According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the true measure of Ukraine’s post-war recovery will be the improvement of living conditions for its citizens. Speaking at a Ukraine recovery conference held in Gdańsk, he urged that national reconstruction strategies place people’s needs at the forefront.
The individual and their daily life requirements must serve as the primary compass for the nation’s future rebuilding efforts, he stated.
Terekhov, who also leads the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities, held international meetings, including one with Carlo Monticelli, head of the Council of Europe Development Bank. This underscores Kharkiv’s active role in global initiatives aimed at the country’s restoration. The city has already secured €47 million in international financial aid, a significant contribution toward rebuilding its infrastructure and social services.
Key Priorities for Reconstruction
Equipment worth a total of €20 million has already been delivered to Kharkiv, further highlighting the municipal government’s efforts to enhance residents’ quality of life. Terekhov emphasized that
Reconstruction means well-being and a dignified life for every Ukrainian. That is the standard by which people will judge the success of the rebuilding process.
The core priorities for reconstruction remain:
- improving living conditions
- ensuring safety
- providing comfort for the population
These elements are critical for implementing strategies that are truly people-centered. Both at the conference and during his international meetings, Terekhov stressed the importance of channeling global resources toward Ukraine’s recovery, a process that must be driven by the social needs of its citizens.
Terekhov’s remarks highlight the essential role of social factors in Ukraine’s post-war rebuilding. By focusing on human needs, international aid and resources can be deployed more effectively, which in turn should bolster social stability and regional development. The successful execution of this approach could serve as a model for other Ukrainian cities and regions undergoing reconstruction.
