The Times has learned how Russia was preparing for a conflict with NATO even before the war with Ukraine.
According to The Times, Russia was preparing for a major conflict with NATO long before the war in Ukraine. Russian military conducted secret underwater operations against Great Britain and NATO even before the invasion of Ukraine.
According to intelligence data from the British Ministry of Defense, Russian oligarchs used luxury yachts for conducting underwater reconnaissance near British shores and for deploying surveillance equipment. Additionally, drones were found that were used to interfere with the operation of deep-sea communication cables.
At the same time, Russia is conducting reconnaissance and destabilizing activities against Great Britain in the Atlantic Ocean and in several seas. British military forces have detected sensor devices that were likely installed by Russia to monitor the movements of British nuclear submarines.
According to high-level sources, Russia has an underwater research program managed by the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research. Russian intelligence operatives use the reconnaissance ship 'Yantar', equipped with unmanned underwater vehicles.
The disclosed facts indicate a presence of tension and activity from Russia in the maritime space. Great Britain is considering enhancing measures to protect its underwater infrastructure.
