Sea Heat Storm in the UK: Where is the Warmest Water for Swimming

According to The Sun: The sea temperature around the UK can vary greatly, with low readings in winter down to 6 degrees Celsius and up to 20 degrees Celsius in summer.

Many factors influence the water temperature: wind, currents, depth. But in general, the water on the southern and western coasts is slightly warmer, especially this year.

The UK Met Office states that there was a sea heat storm happening here in July 2025.

And this sea heat storm is expected to stay until the end of August. Perhaps, not quite the usual holidays for Britons! At least the latest research by the BBC showed that the water temperature has risen by 0.2 degrees Celsius this year. The warmest places for swimming are in Canterbury and Hastings. But don’t forget the beaches in Essex, especially places like Clacton-on-Sea and around Mersey Island. They can be significantly warmer than most other places in the UK due to their location near Europe.

In Clacton-on-Sea, the water temperature can reach 18.7 degrees Celsius. The warmest waters today are in Thorpeness, Sizewell, Parkeston, Walton-on-the-Naze, and Manningtree - 19 degrees Celsius. At the same time, in Scotland, in Sandwick, the water temperature is only 11.9 degrees Celsius.

Remember that even if the water looks warm, it may not be very hot for the body. So it is worth approaching swimming carefully and checking the water quality in advance. And although the UK is not a country with hot seas, the beaches in the south and west can be a pleasant discovery for swimming enthusiasts. Maybe there's no need to rush abroad right away, because you can also enjoy warm water here – just don't forget to check the temperature!
