The Washington Post: Defense orders for Ukraine are creating new jobs in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania's economy is rising thanks to military production for Ukraine
The economy in northeastern Pennsylvania has received a significant boost from the production of military equipment for Ukraine, reports The Washington Post.
"Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. federal government has allocated a lot of money for aid," the publication adds.
Part of these funds remains in the United States and supports the work of enterprises producing military equipment for Ukraine, such as the U.S. Army plant in Scranton, where artillery shells are manufactured.
The U.S. Army ammunition plant in Scranton, a General Dynamics facility, has created over 200 new jobs since 2022 and has doubled artillery production.
Other businesses in the region are also expanding, which helps stop the economic downturn. This has been made possible by the diversification of the region's industry towards healthcare, education, and logistics.
Discussion of aid to Ukraine
There is some opposition in Washington regarding the continuation of aid to Ukraine. Some critics express their concerns and ponder the possibility of ceding territory to Russia.
However, President Biden and Senate Republican leader McConnell support the aid, as it aligns with U.S. security interests and the economic interests of the country.
Region's prospects
The opening of new jobs is attracting residents to Scranton and improving the region's economy. However, there is a problem of a shortage of highly qualified workers for new industries such as medicine and information technology.
Local officials hope to attract young professionals and college graduates to stay in the region and develop it.
Scranton is striving to improve the quality of life for residents, attract new businesses, and become a center of economic development. However, there are challenges such as job distribution and a shortage of industry specialists.
Residents of the region hope that economic opportunities and jobs will continue to grow, bringing more benefits to the region and the entire country.
