Trump Announces Planned Strike on Iran and Seizure of Kharg Oil Island.
U.S.-Iran Conflict Escalates
According to Espreso.tv: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to strike Iran, seize Kharg Island, and take control of other oil infrastructure assets. These actions mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Trump stated:
“The United States will hit Iran very hard tonight.”
According to him, “we will soon seize Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure facilities and establish full control over their oil and gas markets.”
Operation 'Epic Fury'
On February 28, 2026, the U.S. and Israel conducted coordinated strikes against Iran as part of Operation 'Epic Fury.' The strikes targeted missile, military, and nuclear infrastructure. During this operation, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed. In retaliation, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli cities and American bases in the region.
Following the escalation, Iran effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas supplies transit. In response, the U.S. announced a full naval blockade of Iranian ports on April 13. A ceasefire was reached between the parties on April 17, under which Iran agreed to unblock the strait. However, on April 18, Iran reimposed strict control over it.
Kharg Island serves as Iran's primary oil terminal, handling over 90% of the country's oil exports. Trump also noted:
“The ceasefire regime remains in effect.”
This underscores that the situation remains tense and fragile.
This conflict highlights the strategic importance of the region, particularly in the context of global energy supply chains. A blockade of the Strait of Hormuz could have severe economic consequences for the global oil market, as it is a critical chokepoint for international shipments. The next moves by either side could destabilize not only the region but also the broader world economy.
