Trump Cannot End the War: Why His Peace Plan Actually Plays into Putin's Hands

According to ТСН: U.S. President Donald Trump realizes he cannot end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and his statements about peace agreements, according to experts, lack real grounding.

This opinion was expressed by political technologist Mikhail Sheitelman in an interview.

He notes that the current American proposals regarding Ukraine effectively help the Kremlin and do not lead to real peace.

Sheitelman pointed out that Ukraine is expected to retreat from those parts of the Donetsk region that Russia has been unable to capture through military means.

The expert believes that the U.S. is asking Ukraine to cede to Russia what it has been unable to achieve on the battlefield. Donald Trump, he says, is acting not as a mediator, but more on the side of Vladimir Putin.

Why the War Will Resume Again

The political technologist emphasized that no similar "peace agreement" will stop the war for a long time.

He recalled other international conflicts where peace was announced during Trump's presidency, but hostilities resumed shortly thereafter. As an example, he mentioned the situation between Thailand and Cambodia, where after peace agreements, the conflict flared up again.

Another example is the agreement between Israel and Hamas, which included over 20 points. Despite lengthy negotiations and the participation of a U.S. special envoy, only two points were effectively fulfilled — the exchange of hostages and the temporary withdrawal of troops.

According to him, there has been no comprehensive peace agreement: Israel continued military actions, gradually destroying militants and taking control of new territories.

Sheitelman drew a parallel between the situation in Gaza and the current proposals for Ukraine. He stated that Ukraine is being offered to agree to lose part of its territories, even though Russia will not abandon its ambitions to destroy Ukrainian statehood.

In the expert's opinion, such a "peace" is not a compromise but merely a postponement of a new phase of war — already under less favorable conditions for Ukraine.

Kyiv has provided the United States with a revised 20-point action plan for ending the war with Russia, as announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky also clarified that the U.S. is proposing to create a "free economic zone" in the parts of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine, which Russia wants to return to it.

"They see this as the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region, and the compromise supposedly lies in the fact that Russian troops will not enter this part of the Donetsk region. They do not know who will govern this territory," Zelensky said.

Western media report that Ukraine is facing increasing pressure from the U.S. to quickly reach an agreement with Russia, which has recently intensified its actions on the front lines and resumed massive attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The situation remains tense, and despite U.S. proposals for a peaceful resolution, experts doubt their effectiveness. It is crucial for Ukraine to maintain its territorial integrity and sovereignty in this complex international setting. The unfolding of this diplomacy will determine the future developments in the region.
