U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his opinion on Russian leader Vladimir Putin's statement about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump described this statement as 'promising but incomplete' and expressed hope that Russia would agree to a complete cessation of hostilities.

'Putin made a promising statement, but it was not complete. I would like to see a ceasefire from Russia. We hope that Russia will do the right thing,' Trump stated.

The U.S. president also reported that his special envoy Steve Biegun is currently holding 'serious talks' in Moscow. Trump expressed hope that he would gain insight into the current situation.

Trump also revealed some details of the negotiations and confirmed that discussions include territorial issues and control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

'We discussed with Ukraine the land, plots of land that will be preserved and lost,' added Trump.

Trump also expressed willingness to meet and talk with Putin to promote the peace process. However, he warned that if Russia does not agree to a deal, it will be a disappointment for the world.

Additionally, Trump stated that without his intervention, the Ukrainian-Russian conflict 'would have lasted much longer.'

For his part, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the sanctions against Russia imposed by the previous administration were 'close to minimal', and the new administration is ready to impose even stricter restrictions against Moscow if necessary.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his assistant Andriy Yermak commented on Russia's reaction to the ceasefire proposal.
